Family Camping Tips

If this is your first time camping as a family, then you need to do your research and choose your tent. There are plenty of very good deals on offer, some offering bundles such as a number of sleeping bags, sleeping mats and even a camping stove, which can represent a hefty saving. Before you even think about leaving home make sure that you have a practise run at erecting the tent. You don`t want to arrive at a campsite and have everyone watching as you struggle with all the bits and pieces although the chances are that someone will come and offer to lend a hand.

Make a list of all the equipment that you think you`ll need and don`t forget the can opener or the bottle opener. Wet wipes are an essential for sticky fingers and spills and be sure to take plenty of toilet roll, soap and towels. Most sites will have dedicated shower and toilet blocks, but you don`t want to assume that they will be well stocked. You might want to consider taking paper plates to save on washing up, but don`t forget to pack cutlery and washing up liquid. A Swiss knife can be a helpful addition to any camping trip, but remember to keep sharp objects where the children can`t get to them.

A bored child is an unhappy child, so be sure to take a selection of books and games to keep little ones amused. Younger children will appreciate their favourite toys accompanying them, but don`t let them bring the entire contents of the toy box. You`ll need to take a torch with you and a lamp would be helpful – check the batteries are in working order and take some spares.

Don`t forget to take waterproof clothing and wellington boots as any experienced camper will tell you that it`s guaranteed to rain all day if you forget them. Even if the weather promises to be warm be sure to take jumpers or fleeces as the evenings can be chilly.

There`s a lot to think about when planning a family camping trip, so to make sure you remember your holiday for all the right reasons you should consider pitching your tent at a holiday park. With excellent on-site facilities including two swimming pools and a play area Haven Allhallows Holiday Park in Kent can also offer a choice of sports, family entertainment and a choice of restaurants, so you`re guaranteed to have a great time, even if it rains!
